Riverdale star dies after a major stroke

Riverdale and Beverley Hills 90210 actor Luke Perry has died overnight after he suffered a major stroke this week. He was 52.

His heartbroken family has spoken out, in a statement they said, “Appreciate the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning”.

Production on the top-hit TV show, Riverdale, has been shut down temporarily after the shock of his passing. Perry, who starred as Fred Andrews on Riverdale, had been in the Los Angeles hospital since last Wednesday, where he was in an induced coma and heartbreakingly didn’t regain consciousness.

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredible, caring, consumate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all,” a statement from Riverdale’s Executive Producers read.

Luke was rushed to hospital from his Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles home on Wednesday at approximately 9:40am local time.

A family member said he was in an induced coma, although a representative has explained that this was not the case and that he was just sedated.

Once news of Perry’s condition spread, celebrities and close friends posted like wildfire to wish him a speedy recovery.

Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart posted a selfie with Luke, praying for his safe recovery.

Skeet Ulrich also posted a photo of Luke on Instagram, using some comedy to lighten the mood.

Other Instagram accounts posted photos of Luke writing, ‘we wish Luke a speedy recovery,’ ‘love you Luke,’ ‘love you bud,’ and many more.

More to come.
