The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for damaging northerly winds which will strengthen this afternoon and evening ahead of a cold front.
The warning has been issued for South West, North Central and parts of Central, East Gippsland, North East, West and South Gippsland and Wimmera Forecast Districts.
Damaging northerly winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are likely to develop over western Victoria on Monday afternoon, then extend to central and eastern districts overnight. Elevated areas (above 400 metres) are most at risk.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines;
The warning will be updated at 11am this morning.
