Electric cars are now able to re-charge in Ararat after a charging facility was recently installed by council in the centre of town.
Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the charging station, that is free to use, is found next to the library on Queen Street in the car park.
Dr Harrison said that Tesla donated the unit – the company has been rolling out charging stations all over the nation.
“Council is rapt that our municipality now has an electric car charge station, and we thank Tesla for donating the equipment,” he said.
The Council has paid for the placement of the unit, and the electricity charges. Council will be covering all electricity costs into the future when people use the station.
While the unit is a Tesla car charger, other models of electric cars can access the charger with an adapter, which most owners have.
The car charging point will be advertised on the Tesla website, which electric car drivers use to plan their trips.
