Year 12 student, Ella Wood, wrapped up her first VFLW season on Sunday, playing in the league’s grand final alongside her fellow Western Bulldogs. They weren’t good enough to beat Collingwood but the experience has been invaluable for our local footballer.
The Western Bulldogs lost by 37-points at IKON Park, playing a none scoring second half which saw the magpies stretch their five-point half time advantage to quite a win.
She has been travelling to training and games whilst navigating the pressures of Year 12 which she admits as a struggle, but something she is willing to do as a part of her football journey.
“I’m committed. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to play footy and develop,” Wood said.
She now puts her focus towards preparing for the AFLW draft and whether she will make the cut. The NAB AFLW Draft will be held on the 22nd October at the Melbourne Showgrounds.
“I don’t want to get my hopes up at all, I just want to go into the draft with a positive manner,” she said.
